Once Upon a time a ruined abbey stood in a distant land, it rose through the mist and the undergrowth to greet three fairy-tale Brides on a quest for true love.
Jervaulx Abbey near Ripon in North Yorkshire was the perfect location for this fairy-tale Wedding shoot at the end of July 2021. Its ruined buildings were the perfect backdrop to create a mystical shoot for three Brides searching the grounds for true love.
The abbey buildings date back to 1145 and to this day they stand as a charming and atmospheric ruin, the stone walls and the wild landscape go hand in hand to provide a stunning backdrop for an enchanted story to be told. With wildflowers, moss, and lichen creeping through the ruined walls, the Abbey has been taken back into natures grasp and provides a stunning enchanted location for endless adventure and countless photo opportunities.
Jervaulx abbey is a truly breathtaking venue for Yorkshire weddings. The Family who own the abbey have thought of everything. Giving a very individual service to every one of their couples. The fully licenced summer house, with oak frame and Yorkshire stone floor is the perfect location in the grounds for legal ceremonies to take place and the landscaped paddock area lends itself perfectly to open air drinks receptions and marquee dining. The set up is really all about the beautiful location, make it what you desire with your own caterers, you really do have the choice in your hands. The marquee setting would really dress well bringing the outside in, with stunning wildflower displays, archways and hanging flower canopies.
The overall vision for the shoot was put together by Charlotte at Charlotte Elizabeth Bridal. The shoot was to encapsulate the very essence of the Charlotte Elizabeth brand and when I first heard Charlotte's Ideas I was moved by the sheer romantic nature of what she wanted to achieve.
The flower possibilities were endless with romance at the helm and the light and dark factor. I was in my element dreaming up the flower combinations for each princess.
For the ice princess I chose the beauty of quicksand roses, with dahlias, spray roses and astilbe. Wrapped in beautiful satin ribbon in a nude rose hue and finished with pearl pins. Whilst forelock alliums were the perfect starting component for the bewitched majesty of the dark princess. Teamed with queen anne's lace, calla lily, astilbe and homegrown flowering mint the bouquet gave the feel of being plucked from the abbey grounds. I had visions of the Dark princess using each of the herby components to brew magic and bewitch folk that passed by.
An amazing team of quality wedding suppliers came together to make Charlotte's vision a reality and although I wasn't able to be there in person on the day of the shoot it was lovely to work with them all to bring the fabulous concept to life.
